The Turner Prize, one of the most prestigious UK competitions for "young" artists (under 40), announced the four lucky names selected to run for the price during this year’s edition.
Enrico David, Roger Hiorns, Lucy Skaer and Richard Wright, are the lucky four selected by the jury panel consisting of Charles Esche (director of Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven), Mariella Frostrup (writer and broadcaster), Jonathan Jones (art critic at the Guardian), curator Dr Andrea Schlieker, and Stephan Deuchar, who is the director of Tate Britain and Chairman of the Jury.
On October 7, 2009, like every year, Tate Britain will open a show featuring the four shortlisted artists, putting them in the spotlight for inspection by all art critics, as they will be representing "the very best" of English art practice. The winner of the £25.000 award will be announced live on Channel 4, on December 7th, while the three runners-up will receive a contribution of £5.000, and the opportunity to climb the coveted plinth which all English artists aspire to stand on one day.
